Bielefelder Lehrer*innenbildung
You usually have to apply for the preparatory service during your last master's semester. Therefore, inform yourself in time on the websites of the district government.
The BiSEd usually offers an information event on the preparatory service in early summer. You will find the information in due course under Dates. Various unions and associations also regularly offer information events on the preparatory service at the university. Watch for notices or circulars sent to all M. Ed. students near graduation.
Also, be aware of the information on the Master 's Certificate as well as the schedule for completing the M. Ed. degree.
For the preparatory service, you must first decide whether you want to complete it for the teaching profession at elementary schools (or Haupt-, Real-, Sekundar- and Gesamtschulen) or the teaching profession for special needs education. After the preparatory service, you will have the qualification for both teaching positions. This means that, regardless of your choice in the preparatory service, you can subsequently work both at elementary schools (or Haupt-, Real-, Sekundar- and Gesamtschulen) and at special needs schools (and of course also at inclusive schools). In principle, you can apply for both types of positions after the preparatory service.
With your Master of Education degree for the teaching profession at grammar schools and comprehensive schools, you have the opportunity to start the preparatory service for the teaching profession at grammar schools and comprehensive schools or for the teaching profession at vocational colleges. Depending on your choice of preparatory service, you will acquire the corresponding qualification for one of the two teaching positions at the end. For the other teaching profession, you will be considered a lateral entrant upon completion of the preparatory service.
In principle, teaching qualifications are mutually recognised in the 16 federal states. This endeavour was reaffirmed by the KMK in a resolution to improve teacher mobility (PDF) in 2013. As is well known, however, each federal state has its own school laws and there are many different types of schools and teaching qualifications (and experience has shown that there are many changes over time; it is therefore not possible to predict which legal restrictions will apply in the individual federal states after a teacher training programme and subsequent preparatory service in 7 - 10 years). Your admission to the preparatory service therefore depends on whether the teaching profession for which you have received the certificate here is offered in this or a comparable form in the federal state in which you wish to complete the preparatory service.
Enquire at the responsible school ministry or the responsible recruitment authority (often: district government or district office etc.).
You can find the addresses of the ministries on the German Education Server website.
You can also find an overview of teacher training in the federal states and the preparatory service in the federal states.
In NRW, the district governments are responsible.
Once you have successfully completed your preparatory service, whether you are successful in the recruitment and application procedure will depend on your teaching profession and the subjects as well as the respective requirements of the federal states. Information on the recruitment and application procedures of the federal states can be found on the Bildungsserver.
Forecasts on the recruitment prospects (PDF) for teachers in NRW are provided by the NRW Ministry of Education.
